HVF Employment Counseling

Employment Counseling and Assistance

Another major obstacle facing homeless veterans is employment. HVF's employment development program is a multifaceted process involving all HVF staff members.

Additionally, HVF has a vendor license with the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation for Supported Job Based Training (SJBT).

  Program Overview:

Men and women entering the program go through a comprehensive interview process, during which their needs are identified and an individual plan is developed to meet those needs.

In addition to personal counseling, life skills, and relationship building, job skills and shortfalls are determined. Individuals are then placed in programs that help them gain job knowledge in their desired vocation and develop the skills needed to be successful.

Depending upon the needs, vocational preparations may include going to a local technical college, and internship, or other program where HVF partners with local community schools and businesses.

Following a successful training program (internal or external), program members are taught job seeking skills and interviewing techniques. Finally, staff personnel help the member search for a position, set up interviews, and provide encouragement and support.
